Just Dance 2016 Game Review

Just+Dance+2016+Game+Review

For fans of dance-based video games, “Just Dance 2016” with new songs and new dance routines has hit store shelves just in time for Christmas. It becomes the newest installment of this popular game series, which all began in 2009 with the original “Just Dance.” I recently had a chance to invite a friend over, so we could try out our dance moves with this brand new game.

One of the attractions of a game with a yearly release is getting the chance to dance to the latest singles. This year’s version did not disappoint in that area—giving my friend and I the choice of dancing to some newly released pop songs. Selena Gomez’s “Same Old Love” and “Cool for the Summer” by Demi Lovato made it into the game’s playlist along with a number of other newish releases. There were also some older tracks from Lady Gaga, covers of 60s tunes like “Hit the Road Jack,” and kid songs made available to attract players of various ages and interests.

As you would expect, each song has its own choreographed dance moves that players have to match. After each round, the game rates your performance, so you can see how you and your friends are doing. The required moves were challenging enough to make you concentrate, but not so difficult that you felt like a klutz on the dance floor.

While I played “Just Dance 2016” on the Wii, it is also available for Wii U, PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. New this year is the ability to use your smartphone as a dance controller, which means you can track and score your dance moves without needing game controllers. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try it out because the “Just Dance Controller App” only works with Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

I have played a few dance games in the past, but this was my first experience with the “Just Dance” series. Just like other games in this genre, playing it is more fun with friends, so make sure you have people around when you’re ready to play. I did give it a try by myself to check out solo game play, but it was so boring alone that I didn’t play that way for long.

“Just Dance 2016” has enough recent songs in its track list that it should provide players with many nights of entertainment. If you’re looking for something that will help you pass the time during the upcoming break, you should add “Just Dance 2016” to your Holiday wish list.
