Giant Eagle Advantage Cards will soon appear in Indianapolis.

Giant Eagle, a Pittsburgh based and regional grocery store announced last week of plans to expand into the Indianapolis market.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Giant Eagle has signed an agreement to build and open a Market District grocery store with a GetGo convenience store.  The two locations will be included in a development project slated to open in 2015.

Market District is a concept that takes the traditional grocery store offerings but offers more prepared and ethnic foods, in-store dining, and a broader selection of products that includes wine and beer.

It is without surprise, Giant Eagle has decided to enter a new market.  It was only within the last 15 years the company expanded into Ohio, Maryland, and West Virginia.  For anyone who may be a baseball fan, Giant Eagle is a sponsor for the Cleveland Indians just as they are for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The past decade has brought new supermarket ideas with Giant Eagle Express, Market District and Valu King which has since been rebranded Good Cents Grocery + More.

Giant Eagle has a total of nine Market District; five of which are located in Western Pennsylvania including one at the nearby Robinson, and four in Ohio.  Along with the announced expansion, Giant Eagle will construct another Market District near Columbus Ohio.

Recently Giant Eagle also announced all locations will expand their in-store pharmacy areas for better customer service.
