The Muppets are wanted again: “Muppets Most Wanted” review

The Muppets are wanted again: Muppets Most Wanted review

It has been ten years since the Walt Disney Company purchased the Muppets from the Jim Henson Company.  And with Disney celebrating a ten-year anniversary of owning the Muppets, it is only fitting that the Muppets are wanted by a new generation.

Muppets Most Wanted, the sequel to Disney’s 2011 motion picture The Muppets, just tells everyone watching the Muppets are wanted.  However, according to Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Muppets Most Wanted is the 7th motion picture sequel to the 1979 Muppet MovieMuppets Most Wanted literally starts off where the last film ended.  The film starts off with an excellent musical number that gave the Muppets their fame.

The first musical number in the new film, shows reminisces of the TV special The Muppets Go Hollywood, and the motion picture film Muppets Take ManhattanMuppets Most Wanted also featured excellent story writing by Director James Bobin and Nick Stoller.  The storyline featured the unique humor of the Muppets by making use of celebrities and movies.  At one point of film, I felt I was watching an updated version of the Great Muppet Caper.  Just as Disney did in the last film The Muppets, Disney pays homage to Jim Henson with highlights from the original Muppet Show.

As the storyline progresses and the Muppets set foot on a world tour, Jerry Nelsons voice can be heard introducing the Muppets at their first stop.  We also see one of Nelson’s characters return with the appearance of Robin the Frog.  These were a couple respectful tributes to one of the original Muppet performers who recently passed away.

The Muppets as a whole are highlighted extremely well.  One of my dislikes about the previous film was how it seemed as if the human characters lived in a separate world than the Muppets.  However in Muppets Most Wanted, both humans and Muppets live in the same world.  The cast of Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey perform their respected characters perfectly.  For Gervais, this movie is a dream come true, as he has been a life long Muppet fan since The Muppet Show was filmed and shown in England.

Muppets Most Wanted is Disney’s fourth movie project since owning the Muppets.  Disney has introduced new characters in the past two motion pictures and has also revitalized characters from the past.  Some of these revitalized characters include Pops, Uncle Deadly, Wayne & Wanda, The Newsman, Lips, Link Hogthrob, Nigel, Dr. Julius Strangepork, Thog, and The Flying Zucchini Brothers.

Most importantly, Scooter, Rowlf the Dog, and the entire Electric Mayhem have significant roles in the new movie.  When Jim Henson and Richard Hunt passed away in the early 1990s, most of these characters were either absent or featured without lines.

As the trailer suggests, its not easy being green, especially when you are the most famous frog in the world.  For Constantine, the most evil frog in the word and worlds “number one” criminal, he plans to ruin the Muppets world tour and frame them for acts of theft.

To find out all the answers you may want to ask, I suggest you view Muppets Most Wanted.  On a 5 star scale, I give Muppets Most Wanted 4 and a half.  This funny and exciting production, will have you laughing and on the edge of your seat the entire time.
