Robert Morris women’s soccer senior goalkeeper Becky Schoenecker was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday after two solid outings in net for the Colonials over the weekend.

Schoenecker made 12 saves in two games and preserved the team’s first shutout of the year in a 0-0 draw against St. Bonaventure.

“It’s really exciting,” said Schoenecker on the announcement. “I’m glad we were able to keep a clean sheet [against St. Bonaventure]. Hopefully we’ll continue to do so and get the wins we need to compete for our ultimate goal: an NEC championship.”

This is the third consecutive week the RMU women’s soccer team has received conference  honors. Sophomore midfielder Erin Ritzer earned back-to-back Rookie of the Week awards before Schoenecker’s recognition.

“It’s great that the team is getting recognized especially after Erin’s awards,” said Schoenecker. “Its important that we keep making positive progress as a team. ”

The Colonials are 1-4-1 on the season, and look next to an away match with Northern Kentucky on Sept. 14.
