MOON TOWNSHIP– In early November, it was announced that long-time women’s soccer coach, John Kowalski, would not have his contract renewed after it expired later this year. It was also reported that RMU would begin looking for Kowalski’s replacement right away in a national search.
That search took the Colonials to Nevada, where Chris Shaw was chosen as the new head coach of the women’s soccer program. This hiring was announced on Wednesday by Vice President and Director of Athletics Chris King.
As for Shaw, the North Carolina native spent over half a decade at the University of Las Vegas Nevada (UNLV). During his time with the Rebels, he posted an overall record of 66-48-9. On top of his record, which was good enough to make him the winningest coach in program history, Shaw received the honor of being named Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year after a very successful 2016 season.
Despite this success, Shaw and UNLV struggled during the 2019 season, where the Rebels posted a 6-13-1 overall record and managed just a 2-8-1 mark in MWC play.
Shaw’s experience with building a winning program will be needed, as RMU hasn’t had a winning record in conference play since 2015.
About this new opportunity, Shaw told RMU Athletics, “I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to lead the Robert Morris women’s soccer team.”
