The Robert Morris men’s lacrosse team is still reaping the benefits from their come-from-behind victory over Air Force this past Saturday, as Owen Down earned ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors.

During the 11-10 senior day victory, Down forced a career-high four caused turnovers. In eight of his last nine games, the senior has caused a turnover in six straight games for the Colonials.

On top of that, Down collected three ground balls against the Falcons, which extended his ground ball streak to 10 games.

Down has been an integral part of Robert Morris’ defense – one that sits 10th in the nation with 9.75 caused turnovers per game. The Colonials’ defense is also 12th in the country in clearing percentage.

While the Defensive Player of the Week award was the first weekly honor for Down, it is no surprise that Down was selected to the 2022 ASUN Preseason All-Conference team.

Down joins Evan Hellmich and James Leary as the third player named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week.

With the win over Air Force, the Colonials move into second place in the ASUN standings with a 3-1 conference record. The win over the Falcons secured the second seed for RMU as they have a head-to-head advantage over Air Force and Bellarmine, who sit at 2-2, respectively.

The Colonials will close out the regular season on Saturday to travel to Cleveland State.
