Ace Frehley, the legendary guitarist for the rock band KISS known to fans as the “Spaceman,” died Thursday, Oct. 16. He was 74.
Frehley had suffered a fall at his home that caused a brain bleed, according to reports.
He joined KISS in 1973 as one of the band’s founding members, alongside singer Paul Stanley, bassist Gene Simmons, and drummer Peter Criss. Frehley remained with the group for nine years before departing in 1982 to launch a solo career with his band, Frehley’s Comet.
Frehley was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 along with the other original members of KISS. He was not the first original member of the band to die; Eric Carr, who replaced Criss on drums, died of heart cancer in 1991.
