The Pittsburgh Steelers traveled to New York to take on the Jets in the opening week of the NFL.
Some newly acquired players the Steelers added this offseason: D.K. Metcalf (WR), Jalen Ramsey (DB), Aaron Rodgers (QB), Jonu Smith (TE), Darius Slay (DB), and Kenneth Gainwell (RB).
Some notable players the Steelers lost this offseason: Najee Harris (RB), George Pickens (WR), Minkah Fitzpatrick (FS), Russell Wilson (QB), and Justin Fields (QB).
With a revamped Steelers team, it was exciting to see how they would perform in Week 1.
During the offseason, the Steelers also signed 21-year veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Coincidentally, the Jets were Rodgers’ most recent former team.
The Jets cut Rodgers this offseason following two lackluster campaigns, making him a free agent for the first time in his career.
There was a lot of noise surrounding the media about the fact that Rodgers wasn’t capable of playing at a high level anymore.
He shut down all the critics with an impressive Steelers debut. Rodgers finished the game with 244 passing yards and 4 passing touchdowns, with a quarterback rating of 136.7.
Rodgers has been very vocal to the media about his experience during his time with the Jets.
“I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets,” Rodgers said after the game.
The Steelers played well, but there are still some areas that need improvement. Pass protection was not up to par, and the running game was nonexistent. The Steelers’ signature defense didn’t perform as fans know they are capable of. They were unable to generate turnovers on the defensive end and surrendered 32 points.
The Steelers will look to carry their offensive momentum into next week’s game, where they head back home to take on the Seattle Seahawks (0-1) at Lumen Field. With the Seahawks looking to get back on track, it will be exciting to see how they play against the newly 1-0 Pittsburgh Steelers.
