Armstrong Tunnel to close Saturday morning

Over the weekend there will be some changes in routes many use to get around Pittsburgh. The Armstrong Tunnels will be closing during the morning on Saturday. The tunnel for those traveling inbound will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. and ending at 9 a.m. The outbound tunnel will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on that day.

Mosites Construction and Development Company of Robinson will be completing the needed work while the tunnels are closed. The closures are for environmental testing that is needed for an upcoming project in the area.

The detour for those traveling inbound will be Second Avenue, Ross Street, and Forbes Avenue for cars. Trucks will be directed to Second Avenue, B Street, First Avenue, Grant Street, Boulevard of the Allies, Commonwealth Place, Liberty Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Sixth Avenue and Forbes Avenue.

The outbound detour during the closure will be Chatham Square, Fifth Avenue, Ross Street, and Second Avenue for cars. Trucks will use Chatham Square, Fifth Avenue, Liberty Avenue, Commonwealth Place, Boulevard of the Allies, Grant Street, First Avenue, B Street and Second Avenue during the closure.
