ISIS Claims Responsibility for Explosion and Shooting at Moscow Theater

Gunshots and explosions erupted Friday night in Moscow, Russia at the Crocus City hall which killed 40 people and injured 100. ISIS-K has claimed responsibility for this attack which is the worst Russia has seen in years.

Several gunmen dressed in camouflage infiltrated the music hall and opened fire with automatic weapons. Reports said that the assailants used incendiary explosives, which led to a massive blaze at the music hall.

The 6,200-seat music hall which is located in the western outskirts of Moscow was sold out for the night.

After the first shots and explosions rang out there was a massive stampede as everyone ran towards the exits. 100 people were evacuated from their basement hiding spot.

Hundreds of emergency crews were dispatched within minutes of these reports and the Russian government has taken this very seriously as all Moscow events have been canceled. Events in the rest of Russia have been canceled as well. Airports, Transportation stations, and areas in the capital region had their security tightened.

Vladimir Putin was briefed within minutes of this attack but no statement has been released at this time.

Two weeks ago the United States Embassy in Moscow warned of an imminent attack on Russian soil. United States citizens were advised to avoid large gatherings for the next few days according to the Embassy.

The Russian government downplayed these claims made by the United States. This situation is being investigated by the Russian FSB.
