A former daycare worker is facing charges after a four-year-old was allegedly assaulted at the daycare center earlier this month in Westmoreland County.
According to the Westmoreland County district attorney’s office, a mother sent in a report to Scottdale police saying she was made aware that her child was allegedly assaulted on September 5 by a daycare worker at New Hope Childcare Center and Preschool.
According to the DA’s office, the victim’s mother learned the daycare worker was no longer working at the center and asked about the incident with the director of the daycare.
The victim’s mother was shown a video of the incident by the daycare’s director. The video showed the worker “pinning the child in a corner” while allowing another child to hit the victim. The victim was seen being shoved to the ground.
According to the DA’s office, the child’s mother was upset that police were not called about the incident and that Childline was not reported.
Officials later responded to the daycare and viewed the video of the alleged incident.
Police perceived the worker shoving the child with both hands to the ground, causing them to lie there motionless on the ground until she picked them up and shoved them to the ground again.
According to the victim’s mother, the child has been withdrawn since the incident.
The DA mentioned another employee who witnessed the incident provided a statement to the daycare mentioning that the force of the child hitting the ground caused a teacher in another room to hear it as well.
The daycare worker, who was later identified as 58-year-old Krista Ondish, was fired.
Ondish was charged with simple assault, aggravated assault of a victim under 6, and endangering the welfare of children.
Ondish was arraigned and released from jail after posting a $50,000 bail.
