The women’s soccer team traveled to Indiana recently for a successful two-game road trip, drawing against IU Indy and completing a dominant 3-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne. As a result of the Colonials’ success, junior Ava Trethewey was awarded the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week.
On Thursday, Trethewey started her road trip contributions with an assist to Madison Hurst to bring the colonials level against the Jaguars to secure their second conference draw this season. Then, in the match against Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday, Trethewey scored a brace and helped the Colonials grab their second conference win of the season.
The two goals scored by Trethewey against the Mastodons happened to be her first career brace at the collegiate level.
The midfielder from Charleston, West Virginia, has had a great start to the season, tallying five goals and recording two assists for the Colonials to keep them afloat in the Horizon League Standings.
Trethewey is the third Colonial this season to be given this award with goalkeeper, Emma Cameron, winning the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week two weeks ago and senior defender, Jillian Marvin, being acknowledged, as well, at the end of August this season.
The Colonials currently sit fifth in the Horizon League, sitting directly behind Wright State University with a four-point deficit. The Colonials are tasked with a busy week ahead as they host Cleveland State this Thursday, October 16, and host the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Senior Day on Sunday, October 19 at the North Athletic Complex.
