April 22, 2023
MOON TOWNSHIP — The Robert Morris men’s lacrosse team (7-6, 4-4 ASUN) continued their search for a spot in the ASUN Tournament as they took on one of the newest members of the conference, Lindenwood (2-9, 1-7 ASUN). The Colonials would defeat the Lions by a score of 18-12 due to another offensive explosion on senior day.
The Colonials and Lions would trade runs early on in the game Sending it to the break with a one goal for the Colonials.
Then, in the second quarter, Lindenwood would tie the game in the opening minute of the quarter before an offensive barrage by the Colonials.
“We played hard and competed. We started clicking on the offensive end the last couple of games,” Coach Craig McDonald said, “We were able to keep the momentum going today which was good to see a lot of different guys get involved and sharing the ball.”
The Colonials would generate 15 shots on goal in the second quarter finding the net on eight of them. Liam Keane and Taggart Clark would each score four goals on the day while Eric Swagerty and David Burr would each score a hat-trick as well.
On the other side of the field Nate Randall and Senior Liam Rosenthal would each see some action. Rosenthal would make eight saves while Randall was given the win.
Coach McDonald shared his praise for the Class of 2023 and what the special day means to them.
“It’s always great to recognize those guys. They have put in so much time and so much time and so much effort, and really have pushed this program forward,” McDonald said. “The pregame stuff is awesome for the parents to come down and share that moment. A lot of time goes into building those guys up and giving them an opportunity to play here, so it’s good to see things come full circle and enjoy a day like this.”
The Colonials will look to clinch a spot in the ASUN Tournament as they currently sit in the number six spot tied with Mercer at 4-4 in conference and a game ahead of Cleveland State. They head to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force for their final game of the season on Saturday.
