Following a two goal and one assist game for RMU on Sunday, senior Fabian Overkamp has been awarded Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week by the conference.
Overkamp, who had only scored one goal previously for the Colonials, had himself a career day against Detroit Mercy, contributing three times in a 4-0 win over the Titans. The captain also registered five shots and the clean sheet.
The German native started all 19 matches last season, including playing all 90 minutes in 18 en route to a Horizon League championship and NCAA tournament appearance.
Following the historic season, Overkamp was selected to the All-Horizon League second team and the All-Tournament team.
The performances haven’t dropped of this season either, continuing the trend of starting every match so far for the Colonials, and keeping clean sheets in four of the six matches.
The performance paired with the win over the Titans means the Colonials have started conference play hot, and sit tied at the top of the table with Green Bay, IU Indy, and Purdue Fort Wayne.
They’ll welcome Northern Kentucky on Saturday with a chance to try to distance themselves from the pack. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 P.M. at the North Athletic Complex.
