A Pittsburgh Pirates fan remains in critical condition after falling over 20 feet from his seats at the Roberto Clemente wall at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
During the bottom of the seventh inning against the Chicago Cubs, videos show the victim jumping up from his seat and then falling over the 3-foot railing.
He fell onto the right-field warning track. The game was promptly stopped, and medical attention was provided. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he remains.
This fall is being treated as an accident, and there is no criminal investigation ongoing.
The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department stated on X: “This incident is being treated as accidental in nature. The patient remains in critical condition at the hospital. … Pittsburgh Police do not anticipate providing any additional updates to the public.”
Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting has spoken out on the incident and expressed his heartfelt concern and prayer for the victim. Various Pirates players and others affiliated with the team have spoken out as well.
“We are all deeply saddened and truly heartbroken after the terrible accident that occured last night. … It was one of the most difficult moments many of us have ever experienced. We are devastated. Pirates baseball is a community, and our fans are like family. In times like these, we must come together, support one another, and keep him and his loved ones in our prayers.”
As of now, there have been no further updates on the patient’s stability, nor any further statements from authorities.
