Mary Beth Tinker was suspended in junior high for wearing a black armband to show her support for a truce during the Vietnam War. Her case was brought to the Supreme Court (Tinker vs. Des Moines Independent School District) and she won. She is now a free speech activist and travels discussing the importance of free speech and the First Amendment.
