PITTSBURGH — According to a new study, Pittsburgh is one of the best places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Partygoers are expected to spend at least $5.6 billion during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. WalletHub looked at 17 key aspects to compare more than 200 of the country’s largest cities to find the best cities to celebrate the Irish holiday in.

Pittsburgh was ranked as the eighth-best city in the nation to celebrate St. Patrick’s day after being evaluated on items such as the number of Irish pubs and restaurants per capita, the lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day and the average weather forecast.

The top ten cities to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day are:

  1. Chicago, Illinois
  2. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  3. Madison, Wisconsin
  4. Boston, Massachusetts
  5. Tampa, Florida
  6. Naperville, Illinois
  7. New York City, New York
  8. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  9. Rockford, Illinois
  10. Dayton, Ohio

According to WalletHub, Pittsburgh is tied in first place with Naperville, Illinois when it comes to the highest percentage of the Irish population.

However, the Steel City did come in first with the highest access to bars grade. WalletHub measured the number of bars per 100,000 residents and the bars per square mile.

WalletHub reports that there is an 819 percent increase in the consumption of Guinness beer on St. Patrick’s Day compared to the rest of the year.
