PITTSBURGH — The 2019 Diversity Awards, hosted by Allegheny County Human Relations Commission (ACHRC), is now accepting student submissions.

The award recognizes students in grades nine through 12 who advocate for diversity and help fight discrimination in their communities.

“This program offers a great opportunity for students to tackle significant issues, make a positive impact on their schools and communities, and learn along the way,” said ACHRC chair Daniel Styche.

Students can submit a variety of projects and papers through their schools that promote issues regarding discrimination, including poster campaigns, blogs, forming diversity clubs, and public service announcements.

Since its establishment in 2009, ACHRC encourages and promotes full benefits for everyone, combating all types of discrimination. Styche emphasizes the importance of students getting involved in advocating for a more inclusive community.

“Recent events locally and nationally further illustrate the importance of promoting tolerance, inclusiveness and caring,” said Styche. “That’s why we are so proud to once again honor students who inspire others through their passion and hard work and who make this area a better place for all people, regardless of the characteristics that make them unique.”

Submissions are accepted until March 29, 2019, with the awards ceremony on May 1. For more information on ACHRC and their programs, visit their website here.
