The Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced the team name of the USL W-League team to be played at Highmark Stadium in 2025.
It was announced Wednesday that the name will be Pittsburgh Riveters SC.
Nearly 10,000 fans participated in the “Name the Team” contest, with the Riveters being more than 53% of the vote.
The logo depicts a World War II icon, Rosie the Riveter, with Pittsburgh gold, black, silver, and red with the name paying homage to the city’s proud industrial heritage.
“The resilience, unity, and courage [Rosie] represent are the same traits we want our players and fans to embrace as we embark on this new chapter for Pittsburgh sports,” President of Pittsburgh Riveters SC Jeff Garner said. “This team is not only honoring history but also creating its own path for future generations.”
The Riverhounds and the league announced back in April that women’s soccer will expand to the Steel City and play at Highmark Stadium starting in 2025.
The Riveters roster and schedule will be announced at a later date.
