During the summer, the Dean of Communications AnnMarie LeBlanc stepped down. While a replacement is found for the new dean Provost David L. Jamison has been named the interim dean of the School of Communications and Information Systems.

Jamison splits his week as both the Provost and the Dean of Communications. Tuesdays and Thursdays Jamison spends in his office as the Provost. On Mondays and Wednesdays  Jamison spends as the Dean of Communications while moving around as needed on Fridays and for meetings.

“I am the interim dean of the school of Communications and information systems, which was my first job when I came to Robert Morris in 2002 I did that for six years,” said Provost Jamison. “With Dean LeBlanc stepping down, we needed someone to serve as dean.  The president said ‘You’ve done it before, so do it again.” I’m also still the Provost.”

Last year, Provost Jamison mentioned that the school is beginning to revamp the core communication skills classes.

“The comm skills program has to be the core of the core, It has to be the most important part of the core,” said Provost Jamison. “So we are beginning from the idea that the comm skills program will be essential and then we figure out what we need to do from there.”

The School of Communications is also looking to improve the program by including more technology in the classroom.

“It’s a matter of helping the faculty understand. I’ve been doing this a long time and I’ve been traditionally paper oriented but I’ve got to gear myself up to new technologies and likewise for my colleagues,” said Jamison “You guys are all way ahead of us with technology, in terms of understanding technology and using technology.”
