The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning that includes Allegheny County.

The winter storm warning goes into effect at 6 p.m. Tuesday and continues till 5 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the NWS statement, 5 to 8 inches of snow is expected through Tuesday night into Wednesday. The storm will begin late this afternoon as a mix of rain and snow with the most intense period of snow occurring between midnight and 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Due to the amount of snow expected, travel conditions will be hazardous, and the NWS urges drivers to use extreme caution.

Be sure to watch for a RMU Alert in case classes are canceled or the university closes due to weather conditions.
