This past weekend, the Robert Morris University women’s ice hockey team swept Lindenwood in the first round of the College Hockey America tournament, thanks, in large part, to Kristen DiCiocco’s performance in the net.

“There were some pretty crazy games. We knew it would be a battle, and it definitely was. It took us nine periods for two games, but it was a lot of fun, and the team worked really hard,” she said.

On Friday, the team played a triple over-time game (six periods), but DiCiocco remained strong.

“We seemed to be in control most of the game, so I was just trying to focus, not getting as many shots, so I was just skating around (and) trying to stay focused for the shots I did face,” she said.

After the marathon game on Friday, DiCiocco started in Saturday afternoon’s game, as well, and managed to earn a shutout.

“It was really exciting to get the overtime win, but we learned that we have to wipe the slate clean and start a new day; go from there,” said DiCiocco. “You can’t be stuck in the past.”

This weekend, the women will travel to Mercyhurst for the CHA tournament semi-final game.

“We have nothing to lose. It’s our last weekend of the year. These will be my last games I’ll ever play with Robert Morris, so there’s nothing to lose,” said DiCiocco. “We’re going to go out there, work hard and hope we get the job done.”
