Golf finishes 11th in penultimate tournament of the year

SPRINGBORO, Oh.– In preparation for the NEC Championships, the Robert Morris golf team (+330) finished 11th out of 12 teams at the Wright State Invitational this past weekend with a score of +54. Winning the tournament were the Tigers of Wittenberg University, who finished 33 shots clear of the Colonials at +21.

The low score for a singular golfer was Zach Schroeder of Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne. Schroeder finished with a total tournament of -4, which included a score of 69 on the second day. For Robert Morris, Max Palmer finished in a five-way tie for ninth at four-over par. This is Palmer’s sixth top-ten finish of the season and his fifth in a row.

After shooting a +10 150, Kyle Grube tied for 36th. Grube started the tournament strong, shooting an even-par first round, however, in day two the junior from Indiana, Pennsylvania shot ten-over par. Finishing three shots back of Grube was Colombia native Daniel Franco Saad. Franco Saad finished in a tie for 51st place at 13 over par.

Behind Franco Saad was Chace Miller, in a three-way tie for 58th place. Miller’s +14 tournament included three birdies over his two rounds. In his first tournament of the year, Alex Schreckengost finished tied for 67th with a 17-over par 157. Schreckengost started strong, shooting even par through his first five holes.

Wrapping up the tournament for the Colonials, three shots clear of last place, was David Szymanski. Szymanski started the tournament on a rough note, shooting a +13 his first round, including two double bogies and a triple bogey on the 348-yard par 4 13th.

The Colonials will have a week-long break before they head to the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida for the NEC Championships.
