Alternative ways to spend Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and for many singles, it means a day of having their status as single being put on public display. Valentine’s Day isn’t the most enjoyable holiday, mainly appealing to new couples and kids under the age of ten, but this doesn’t have to be the case this season. Even if you’re “forever alone,” you don’t have to bypass the holiday entirely. Listed below are five alternative ways to spend your Valentine’s Day this year.

1. Studying:

If you want to be productive on the holiday of Love, why not work on that project you’ve been procrastinating about? Nothing beats being able to relax after getting caught up on all your looming assignments. No? Then try a …

2. Movie Night:

Valentine’s Day might be the day of love, but that doesn’t mean it has to be romantic. Spread some platonic love by getting together with a group of good friends and a bag of popcorn. You can take advantage of the new Xfinity on Campus by hosting a movie night with your best buds.

3. Off-campus Meal:

A nice meal on Saint Val’s Day doesn’t have to be lit by candlelight and accompanied by champagne. On Wednesday, celebrate the holiday by taking your friends out to lunch at one of the many restaurants just off campus. (We suggest going to lunch and not dinner. Dinner at a restaurant on Valentine’s Day is going to be a long wait.)

4. Game Night:

Get together with some friends, pull out some games and play the night away. It doesn’t matter whether you use board or video games, the goal is to have fun with friends and spread the “love.” If you lack games of your own, the library has a variety of board games at students’ disposal and just waiting to be put to use.

5. The Me Day:

Spend the day focusing entirely on yourself. You can treat yourself to ice cream, watch a favorite movie, reread a well loved book, go to the gym or spend your night curled up in bed. In short, do whatever makes you happy. Valentine’s Day is about love, so show some for yourself and your own mental health.
