With the Spring semester coming to a close, student-run organizations, clubs, and groups are holding their final meetings for the school year. This past Thursday, April 23rd, the students of the Rune literary journal hosted their own final gathering.
RMU seniors, faculty, and outside contributors to the Rune journal were invited to share projects ranging from presentations and writings to art and photography.
Attendees were warmly greeted and received a complimentary Rune booklet made by RMU students, featuring select works presented at the meeting. The booklet showcased contributions from all members of the journal, including the striking cover art created by talented students from the photography majors and the Sentry Media team.
The event began with a special presentation by guest speaker Jessica Manack, a gifted author and native of Pittsburgh’s North Side. Jessica Manack, whose influence and mentorship have inspired many in the RMU Rune community, has been featured in numerous anthologies and journals, and her poetry collection was published by Sheila-Na-Gig Editions.
She shared a selection of her work, some older and some more recent, but all united by a common thread: drawing inspiration from the seemingly ordinary details of life and transforming them into powerful poetic expressions.
Manack emphasized that inspiration can often come early in life and that growth, as a writer and a person, comes through experiencing life’s passages. Her work reflects her evolving perspective, wisdom, and the ability to find meaning in even the smallest moments.
As the evening continued, students presented their own poems, art, and writing. Each participant had the opportunity to share their creative efforts with an enthusiastic audience of classmates, friends, family members, faculty, fellow writers, RMU leaders, and community supporters.
The event served as a celebration of individuality, creativity, and the analytical thought that goes into each student’s work, reminding everyone of the importance of recognizing and honoring the unique voices within the RMU community.
