As campus ramps up for homecoming weekend, there are many events working in preparation! One of these events is the homecoming mural painting, as campus organizations came to John Jay gymnasium to paint their very own signs!

All supplies were provided for the participating organizations, leaving participants to come with only their creativity. Many groups were present, such as Delta Zeta, the Design Network, the Black Student Union, the Marching Show Band, and the Veteran’s Association. For most, this was their first year taking part, noting the event simply seemed cool! Additionally, there were individuals who simply wanted to contribute to the Colonial pride!

While the main purpose of these signs is to market for their organizations, some held deeper meanings to truly display what it means to be a Colonial. The Design Network sign displays number 16, the same number as RMU quarterback Anthony Chiccitt. At surface value, the sign seems to be a super cool design supporting the football season, but the underlying meaning holds a meaningful story. Chiccitt is a warrior, having beat Hodgkin’s Lymphoma twice, still returning to the field stronger than ever. Saturday, September 9th, Chiccitt started as the Colonials took their first win of the season and broke their 12-game losing streak.

The 2023 Homecoming Weekend is just preparing to kick off, and there are many must-see events. As all the excitement ramps up, make sure you don’t miss the fun, and be sure to check out the club murals!
