MOON TOWNSHIP — Two area school districts have canceled classes Friday after receiving threats of violence.

The Mars Area School District canceled classes after they say a rumor of possible violence was brought to the attention of administrators and police.

“While Adams Township Police Department has yet to substantiate these rumors and is continuing its investigation, the District is closing its schools on Friday, Oct. 19, out of an abundance of caution,” said the school district in a statement on their website.

Bethel Park School District also canceled classes for Friday after they received an anonymous threat of violence.

Both the Bethel Park Police Department and the Adams Township Police Departments are investigating the threats.

It is unclear at this time if the threats are related.
