There is a possibility that social media could undergo some changes due to an ongoing case in the Supreme Court. The court is currently deliberating on what content is permissible on social media platforms. Specifically, the case concerns whether the states of Texas and Florida should be granted more control over social media.

The issue revolves around whether states can control what is posted and what can and cannot be removed. The states want to keep Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and others from removing users’ posts. This could include ones that promote hate speech, eating disorders, misinformation about elections, and more.

This court case would question the First Amendment with Freedom of Speech as states could control what can and cannot be posted.

When a ruling is made, it could change how these states hear about the upcoming election and what voters may have access to regarding information.

Texas and Florida have signed laws that prohibit these major social media companies from taking down posts on their website. Some have stated it goes against the constitutional rights of media companies and that is why these companies are arguing.

Currently, the ruling in Florida does go against the first amendment in the Constitution.

The Supreme Court ruling will determine whether or not a state has control over what can or cannot be posted as well as remove any posts. The court ruling could likely change social media as a whole.
