In what has been a seriously bad string of luck, the Robert Morris men’s soccer team’s (0-2-1 overall; 0-0 NEC) losing streak continued on Friday afternoon after they took a 1-0 loss to the University of Detroit Mercy Titans (1-2) in the first game of the RMU/Duquesne Tournament.

The first half opened up with both teams exchanging shots. RMU had six shots at the end of the first half but failed to find the net. As for UDM, they scored their only goal of the afternoon on their fifth shot of the game. That goal was scored by Mohamad Miri with an assist from Kevin Tapchom at 40:28 mark. It was Miri’s first goal of the season.

After the Titans got their only goal of the game, Detroit Mercy player Collin Cavanaugh received a red card with less than a minute left in the first half. This left the Titans one man short for the rest of the game.

The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for the Titans.

“We had to take advantage of the numbers they had, we did a pretty good job of it,” said head coach Bill Denniston. “We couldn’t get behind their back four though or their back five.”

The second half began calmly as both teams quickly cooled off from the end of the first half with a header from Christopher Coridon going wide of the net.

After some shots from Owen Pearce, Kai Olguin, Matt Cillo, and Oeyvind Skjesol that ended up short of the net, the intensity of the game started to pick up. The Titans were doing everything they can to keep Robert Morris off the scoreboard. They made multiple substitutions that ultimately proved successful for the Titans as they ended up winning by the score of 1-0.

RMU men’s soccer continues on Sunday, September 2 at 1 p.m. against Northern Kentucky in the second game of the RMU/Duquesne Tournament from the North Athletic Complex.
