RMU fell to the hands of the Spartans Sunday in their final game of the weekend in the Sunshine State.

Game One:

RMU 8 (1-0), Morehead State 0 (3-1): Robert Morris opened their season with a game against Morehead State in the CSU Dome Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio. The Colonials were able to take of their opponent easily as they recorded the shutout in six innings. RMU used a five run first inning to get ahead early and never looked back. The Colonials tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning and their final and eighth run in the sixth inning. Junior Jordan Gurganus led the Colonials in hits with 3. Seniors Ashley Gerhart and Kristen Gabelt both finished with two hits. Senior Haileigh Stocks and Junior Stacey Capp led RMU in RBI’s as they both finished with two each. Freshman Kaitlin Ellzy picked up her first win in a Robert Morris uniform as she only gave up three hits, struck out five and didn’t give up a walk.

 

Game Two:

RMU 7 (2-0), Niagara 5 (1-3): In their second game of the CSU Dome Invitational, the Colonials found themselves in a much closer game than the first game when they took on Niagara. In their second straight game, RMU got ahead early on their opponent with a five run first inning. Niagara answered in their half of the second inning with three runs but RMU scored two more runs in the bottom half of the second via an Ashley Gerhart single to left field and a Lauren Hackett double to center field to extend their lead to 7-3. Niagara held RMU from scoring for the remainder of the gameĀ  and scored one run in the fourth and seventh inning but Niagara failed to complete the come back. Junior Stacey Capp led RMU in hits white three. Jordan Gurganus, Ashley Gerhart, and Kristen Gabelt finished with two hits. Gerhart led RMU with two RBI’s Kaitlin Ellzy started in the circle for Robert Morris for the second straight game and picked up her second straight win to improve to 2-0 on the season.
