Cause After Halloween: NFL Week 14 Picks

Ironic I would pick this song. Well, not really, because one of my best friends Joe Peterson never stops singing short excerpts from random songs! The ironic part is that, after Halloween, I missed two straight posts. Thankfully it came at a decent excuse: the Thanksgiving holidays. Hopefully you all had a wonderful time with family, friends, and turkey!

I started Week 11 with a 90-56 record. I won’t post all my picks again for sake of length, but I ended Week 11 with a record of 102-58.

The first miss I had was Week 12. My picks for winners were Houston (W), Dallas (L), New England (W), Chicago (W), Cincinatti (W), Pittsburgh (L), Indianapolis (W), Denver (W), Seattle (L), Atlanta (W), Tennessee (L), Baltimore (W), San Fransisco (W), St. Louis (W), New York Giants (W), and Carolina (W). A 12-4 week puts me tied for the top in Week 12. My overall record at that point was 114-62, placing me at sixth out of thirteen pickers.

Then came Week 13. I had Atlanta (W), Buffalo (W), Chicago (L), Detroit (L), Green Bay (W), Houston (W), Carolina (L), San Fransisco (L), New England (W), New York Jets (W), Denver (W), Cleveland (W), Cincinatti (W), Baltimore (L), Dallas (W), and the New York Giants (L). This week went a little harder, ending at 10-6. My record is at a less-than-sterling 124-68, which keeps me locked in to sixth place.

I now have four weeks to make up a 10-game deficit. Besting my third-place finish from last year (albeit one where there four less experts to compete with) seems like a task in vain, but if I’m doing these posts anyway, I’m fighting until the end!

Now for some picks that actually haven’t happened yet:

Denver over Oakland (alight, so I guess one has already happened)

St. Louis over Buffalo

Cincinatti over Dallas

Cleveland over Kansas City

Indianapolis over Tennessee

Chicago over Minnesota

Pittsburgh over San Diego

Tampa Bay over Philadelphia

Baltimore over Washington

Atlanta over Carolina

New York Jets over Jacksonville

San Fransisco over Miami

New York Giants over New Orleans

Seattle over Arizona

Green Bay over Detroit

Houston over New England

I am not sure about all of those picks. The last one in particular scares me, as the deciding factor was New England’s horrible secondary. If they step up, I look like an idiot. But, I am confident I will make up the ground to get into fourth by the end of next week!

Hope your Sundays are stress-free, lazy, full of football and friends, and that somewhere along the way you find some nachos or wings!

God Bless!

– Dan
