This ball features the highly proven Gear Symmetric Core. If this core sounds familiar, it is because it was also used in the Motiv fan-favorite benchmark ball, the Venom Shock. This core has a 2.48 RG and a 0.034 Differential. While these numbers are not incredibly high, they are very comparable to the Brunswick Alert Core, which features a 2.478 RG and a 0.037 Differential. While the Alert will flare slightly more compared to the Gear Symmetric Core, it was Brunswick Bowling’s benchmark ball of 2025 and saw significant success.
The Venom Hysteria also includes the Propulsion MXV Pearl Reactive coverstock. This cover originally debuted on the Evoke Hysteria and saw massive success on the Professional Bowling Tour in 2025. This coverstock is very “middle of the road,” or perhaps slightly on the stronger side. It is difficult to say exactly how the coverstock compares to others, but the closest comparison would be the HK22 – Cohesion Pearl featured on the Black Widow Mania.
According to Motiv, what should this ball actually do? Motiv claims this ball has a backend rating of 77 out of 100. This is largely due to the lower-flaring Gear Symmetric Core. A length rating of 74 suggests that this ball will be fairly angular, though it will still be a step down from your Evoke Hysterias or Nebulas. An overall hook rating of 53 indicates that this will provide a benchmark-esque pearl reaction.
On the Motiv ball chart, this ball overlaps with the Hyper Venom, which has also been very successful. This may hint at a possible retirement for the Hyper Venom, but only time will tell.
Ultimately, the main question is which bowlers will want this ball? Motiv claims that speed-dominant bowlers will like this piece because of the Propulsion MXV coverstock’s chemical formula. It will serve them well when bigger asymmetrical balls start to hook too early, providing a straight step down from the Evoke Hysteria.
Balanced bowlers will likely enjoy this ball when their Venom Shock begins to react too smoothly, leaving flat ten-pins. The Venom Hysteria provides the extra kick in the backend needed to “tap out” those ten pins. For rev-dominant and two-handed players, Motiv likes to market this core to them because of the low differential. This gives rev-dominant bowlers a pearl option without the over-flaring issues that many other pearl balls tend to cause.
If you loved the traction of the Evoke Hysteria but found it to be too much ball for your local house shot, or if you love your Venom Shock but simply need more angle, then this ball is for you.
