Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University Athletic Department announced on Wednesday the addition of Men’s Outdoor Track & Field along with Women’s Golf. Both programs will return to Bobby Mo after over a decade of being discontinued from the university’s pool of athletic programs.
Both programs last competed in their respective sports in the spring of 2014 with the end of their seasons marking the end of their programs. That is until Wednesday, when the athletic department announced that they will be returning with immediate effect for the 2026-27 academic year.
The Men’s Outdoor Track & Field team sponsored a team for seven spring seasons from 2007-08 to 2013-14. During their time as a program, the team competed in the Northeast Conference (NEC). For the Women’s Golf program, RMU fielded a team from 2003-04 to 2013-14 and were a part of the NEC for their 11 seasons as a program.
Robert Morris has already announced that both programs have already hired coaches to lead the programs in their new era. The RMU Men’s Track and Field team will be led by Bryan Delsite, who has been in charge of the RMU women’s cross-country and track & field teams since he was hired in June 2020.
The Women’s Golf program will be held by the Director of Golf at RMU Steve Shingledecker. Shingledecker is entering his third year at Bobby Mo after being named the RMU Men’s Golf coach in the summer of 2023. Both programs are in good hands with both coaches holding a wealthy number of years of experience in their respective sports.
Robert Morris announced that both programs will compete as members of the Horizon League, which RMU has been a member of since the 2020-21 academic year.
Both coaches made statements that were provided to Sentry Media by Robert Morris University. Shingledecker said, “We are thrilled to expand RMU Golf with the addition of our new women’s program this fall. Elevating our golf presence allows us to provide more elite student-athletes with the opportunity to compete, grow and build a lasting legacy here at Robert Morris.”
In the same statement that was released by Shingledecker, coach Delsite said, “The return of men’s track and field is a tremendous moment for our university, our alumni and the entire track and field community.” Delsite added, “We’re incredibly excited to once again provide opportunities for young men to compete, grow and represent RMU with pride. We’re especially excited to return to competition in the Horizon League, where we’ll have the opportunity to challenge some of the best programs in the conference and establish RMU as a program capable of competing for championships.”
With the return of both programs, RMU will go into the 2026-27 academic year with 18 NCAA Division 1 athletic programs. Eight men’s programs joined with 10 women’s programs to continue to bring more noise and much deserving attention to RMU athletics.
