Robert Morris University held their opening reception for their newest gallery, the Annual Gold Show, and the fall semester’s Senior Showcase, on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
The reception was held from 5-7 P.M. in the Wheatley Center and celebrated student creativity, craftsmanship, and creation.
The gallery is split into two exhibitions. The Senior Showcase was presented on the right side of the gallery and featured work from graduating Graphic Design, UX/UI, and Cinema and Photography students. The opening reception was able to give the graduating students a chance to show their final projects and portfolios in a professional setting. There is expected to be another Senior Showcase for the upcoming spring semester, which should highlight the second cohort of graduating seniors.
On the left side of the gallery, the Annual Gold Show was presented. The Gold Show highlights select works that are chosen by faculty members from Media Arts courses throughout the University. The display showcases a variety of mediums and styles, including sculptures, photography, films, visual art, and more, which shows the talent and curriculum within RMU’S art programs.
This exhibition presented a lot of hands-on interaction that the visitors of the gallery could engage with. Visitors were able to explore student-designed board games, look through digital portfolios on computers, contribute to projects, like creating wired flowers or ways to utilize plastic bags, and immerse themselves while watching films using headphones. These attributes are unique and create a space that provides a visual and immersive experience.
Dr. Ed Karshner, Department Head of English and Media Arts, spoke at the reception and emphasized gratitude and the importance of giving students a place to share their work and accomplishments. Guests were also able to enjoy refreshments and snacks, as well as the opportunity to meet the artists behind the work.
Although the reception has concluded, the exhibition remains open to the public through Dec. 12. Students and visitors are encouraged to stop by Wheatley Center to experience the variety of creative work on display and support RMU’s emerging artists.
