Blood Drive Saves Lives

It doesn’t take long to save another’s life – just ask the people who went to the Central Blood Bank’s blood drive Thursday. The drive took place at the OnDemand Energy Solutions building on Cherrington Parkway, and it was a joint effort between OnDemand and the Central Blood Bank.

Christian Silveira, OnDemand’s Director of Sales & Mass Market Operations, said the drive was held because “it was a good thing to do.” He also mentioned a desire for a large turnout.

“We were hoping for 15-20 people”, Silveira said. “I think if we get another person or two we would hit our goal.” Fifteen people appears even larger once you consider that, according to the workers of the blood drive, each donation saves three lives.

A good turnout is always a positive sight at a beneficial event such as a blood drive. “It’s just a good cause”, said Jack Wagner, another OnDemand employee, in explaining why he donated blood. As one of the workers at the blood drive told Silveira, someone needs blood every two seconds, a statistic that surprised him.

“We didn’t realize how useful and how important it is to do blood drives in the local community,” Silveira said.

As Silveira said this, one more person off the street walked in, hitting the goal the blood drive had set, making the day a success.
