The RMU football team added 17 new players on National Signing Day.

The first Wednesday in February has become somewhat of a holiday for the sports world over the past three decades.

National Signing Day, as it is affectionately known as, is the first official day a high school senior can sign a letter of intent to play a college sport.

Though football powerhouses Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon and Texas weren’t the only teams to announce its recruiting classes.

The Robert Morris football program officially added 17 players, all of whom will be freshmen in the fall of 2015, to its roster on Wednesday.

“We’re very excited that these 17 student-athletes have committed to Robert Morris,” head coach John Banaszak said in a statement. “It’s a group that we believe has a lot of depth and one with some young men that are capable of filling in some holes on our team.”

For its class of 2019, the Colonials scoured the Midwest and east coast, signing players from seven states, including Western Pennsylvania product Mike Roper of Chartiers Valley, Karns City’s Logan Moroney, Washington’s Malik Wells, a half back, and Freeport native Andrew Romanchak.

Joining tight ends Roper and Moroney on the offensive side of the ball is Tyler Brown, a first team all-tri-state quarterback from Huntington, W.Va., offensive linemen Krys Diaz and Riley Metheney, wide receiver Warren Robinson, running back Dante Satcher and Columbus, Ohio native Aaron Williams, a high school tailback whose position with RMU is still up in the air.

In addition, Robert Morris brings in linebackers Devon DeFrances, Scott Goodwill and Adam Wollet, defensive lineman Amir Fenwick, defensive end Trey Harper and defensive backs Antoine Means and Roger Richardson IV.

The RMU football team will hold its first practice in mid-March, with the annual spring game set for April 18.
