TORONTO — Robert Morris alumni, and the all-time leading scorer in RMU men’s hockey history, Brady Ferguson was called up to the AHL level in hockey this past Thursday. Ferguson has been recalled by the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ferguson had been playing for the Newfoundland Grizzlers in the ECHL where he was tied second in the entire league in scoring with nine goals, 11 assists and 20 points in 16 games. Notable NHL players have come from the ECHL such as Jonathan Quick, Deryk Engelland, Braden Holtby and Alex Burrows.

The AHL Marlies are currently 5-6-1 overall and last in their North Division in the AHL. Ferguson will join players with NHL experience such as Josh Jooris, Colin Greening and longtime NHL veteran Sam Gagner, who has played in 770 NHL games. The Maple Leafs are currently 14-6 overall and second in the NHL as of today. Their center depth has been depleted due to the injury of superstar Auston Matthews, who is estimated to be out for four weeks.

Back in September, the Texas native Ferguson joined the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs’ training camp, but was cut before the season had started. If Ferguson can get the call to the NHL, then he would become the first player in RMU history to make an NHL squad.
