PITTSBURGH– The RMU Rowing team was able to enjoy home cooking for the first time this decade when they hosted the Yinzer Cup regatta, their first home regatta since 2009, at the McPhail Boathouse on Neville Island on Saturday. In addition to RMU the other teams competing were Canisius, Marietta, George Mason and West Virginia. The teams rowed on the Ohio River around Neville Island on a beautiful fall day. The regatta started with Novice Fours and continued on into the afternoon with Varsity Four, Doubles/Pairs, Novice Eights and Varsity Eights. The team had beautiful chilly weather in their first home race in 10 years.

The last action for the Colonials was on October 5, when they took part in the 33rd annual Head of the Ohio race. The team performed pretty well and picked up hardware at the race.

Overall, it was a pretty good performance for the RMU team. They placed second in Novice Fours with a time of 16:32, and one of their four Varsity Fours teams placed first in that event with a time of 11:50. They placed second in Doubles with a time of 14:50, second in Novice Eights with 14:13, and of their two teams in Varsity Eights, their highest finish was fourth with a time of 11:00.

The Colonials’ next action will take place on November 8, when they take on Duquesne University.
