MOON TOWNSHIP — Robert Morris University’s President Christopher Howard was recently named to the NCAA Committee on Sports Wagering.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the ad hoc committee on sports wagering,” said President Howard in response receiving the title.

President Howard will be working with the committee to take on a multitude of tasks, according to a statement from RMU. The team examines the potential impact of sports wagering on current NCAA rules, educational efforts and player availability reporting.

Work will also be made to find any risks that may come with more states legalizing betting on sports, a change that greatly impacted the Pittsburgh area during the 2019 Super Bowl.

The RMU president was also elected as the Chair of the NCAA Honors Committee, will decide the recipients of several awards. President Howard will aide in selecting recipients for top awards, including the Silver Anniversary Award which President Howard himself won in the past. This particular award is given to distinguished former student-athletes, 25 years after the end of their intercollegiate athletic eligibility.
