MOON TOWNSHIP — For nearly 40 years McDonald’s has kept customers on the edge of their seat craving the Shamrock Shake for just one month out of the year.

The Shamrock Shake made its return to McDonald’s restaurants around the Pittsburgh region in late February. The company said in a statement that the specialty drink would only be available in participating stores for a limited time.

Those that are craving the creamy vanilla soft-serve blended with Shamrock Shake syrup and topped with whipped cream and a cherry can now find the closest restaurant to carry the product by downloading the new Shamrock Shake Finder app.

The app, which was released on both the Apple App Store and Google Play, even features a special feature for iPhone users.

“Fans simply need to download the app and from there, locate participating restaurants locations, swap Shamrock Shake-themed stickers and raise a shake with friends to toast St. Patrick’s Day,” said McDonald’s in a statement. “In addition to helping fans find the nearest Shamrock Shake, the app also features a brand new camera mode, featuring an augmented reality (AR) experience for iPhone X.”

According to McDonald’s, the Shamrock Shake was first released in the 1970s and has since garnered a cult-like following.

Also new for this spring is the ability to have a Shamrock Shake delivered to you. Using the UberEats app, customers can have the sweet specialty drink delivered right to their doorstep.
