The RMU campus turned pink on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for Zeta Tau Alpha’s (ZTA) 12 Hours of Pink. The RMU sorority had four events throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“Kiss Away Cancer” was the first event of the day, with hershey kisses being passed out to students walking around campus. Along with the chocolate, breast cancer education cards to further student’s knowledge about the disease were handed out. Included on the education cards were reminders to everyone to get monthly breast exams known as mammograms and quick health facts.

The second event of the day was a carnival held from 1-5 p.m. at the Nicholson patio. Sophomore Alpha Chi Rho member, Jake Sharick was happy to help support ZTA and a great cause.

“Each table kind of has a carnival game going on. This whole event is carnival themed, so each game is one dollar. So you can give a few bucks and every bit helps,” said Sharick.

The third event over the course of the 12 hours of pink was “Pink Out Zumba” at 5 p.m. in the John Jay Gym. The cost was only $5 to be able to exercise while showing off some moves.

The last event over the course of the day was “RMU’s Best Dance Duo.” The event was also held in the John Jay Gym with the cost only $2 at the door. Participants were also automatically entered into a raffle for a $10 Chipotle gift card.

According to ZTA Second Vice President and New Member Educator Sarah Affrica, the event planning was not just overnight.

“Definitely since the beginning of the semester, even filtering into summer. This has been in the works for awhile. A lot of planning goes into events like this,” said Affrica.

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., free Moe’s chips and salsa were given out at the carnival. Raffle tickets for Moe’s and Pirates baskets were sold at each event and anyone who showed up at any of the events wearing pink was entered into a raffle to win a $10 Sheetz gift card.

The proceeds of the event will be donated to the ZTA Foundation for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.
