PITTSBURGH – The Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association (WPTLA) is preparing to host their 19th annual President’s Challenge 5K Run/Walk/Wheel.

The event will benefit the Pittsburgh Steelwheelers, which is an organization that strives to assist physically challenged athletes. The organization provides programs to the athletes that allow those interested to participate in competitive sports.

Steelwheelers offer athletes the chance to participate in sports such as Quad Rugby, Wheelchair Basketball and Hand Cycling.

The race will take place on Oct. 12 at the boathouse in North Park.

Several raffle prizes will be offered at the event including a signed Ryan Shazier Pittsburgh Steeler jersey. Pittsburgh Penguin and Steeler game tickets will also be included in the raffle, along with an overnight stay and breakfast from a Pittsburgh hotel.

WPTLA has helped raise $400,000 for the Steelwheelers since 2000.

“The President’s Challenge has been the lifeblood of the Steelwheelers for the past 17 years,” said Bob Eyler, a spokesperson for the Steelwheelers. Without the support of the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the Steelwheelers would probably be a distant memory. The WPTLA, through the President’s Challenge, has continued to allow the Steelwheelers to positively affect the lives of people with disabilities in so many ways.”
