RMU 7 (19-8-4, AHC 16-5-5), Air Force 4 (15-11-5, AHC 13-7-5): RMU opened their two-game weekend series against Air Force at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Friday night with a three goal victory over the Falcons. Robert Morris scored three goals in the first period, one from senior Matt Cope and two from junior Daniel Leavens. Senior Zach Lynch increased RMU’s lead to 4-0 early in the second period, when he found the back of the net. However, Air Force scored the game’s next three goals to cut their deficit to just one score. Leavens gave the Colonials cushion room when he completed the hat trick, with his third goal of the game coming within the first two minutes of the third period. The Falcons scored one more goal to make it a 5-4 game, but seniors David Friedmann and Greg Gibson made sure the Falcons couldn’t get a comeback started, as their two goals near the end of the final period pushed RMU’s lead to three. Senior goaltender Terry Shafer earned the win, denying 45 shots the Falcons fired his way.
