MOON TOWNSHIP – Student organizations, Bringing Education Service and Teaching (BEST) and Colonial Advocates for Childhood Homelessness and Education (CACHE) held a school supplies drive on campus.

Both organizations work to provide support for students in Pittsburgh who require extra help when it comes to being properly prepared in the classroom. The school supplies drive was just another way these organizations helped out.

“This is the second year we’ve done a supplies drive,” said Katherine Messner, president of BEST. “Originally, our drive last year was going to benefit the Education Partnership, which is an organization in Pittsburgh that provides supplies to needy teachers and needy kids.”

Although the organizations have similar goals, this was the first year that the two organizations teamed up for the event, something CACHE president Maxwell Cass says is a great partnership.

“We’ve known about each other’s clubs,” said Cass. “We were going to team up at the end of last year for an event they were putting on, but things fell through. We wanted to do something as soon as possible.”

The event ran until Sept. 27. The organizations were able to make 50 care packages to send out to students. A care package included a folder, notebook, pen, four pencils, and two erasers.
