MOON TOWNSHIP — Following a mudslide late last week, University Boulevard in Moon Township will remain closed until at least Wednesday.

According to the Moon Township Police Department, University Boulevard will remain closed in the southbound, or uphill, direction until at least Wednesday.

Officials say that with the expected two inches of rain in the forecast, the hillside could become unstable and continue to pose a threat to travelers.

Here is the recommended detour for travelers:

  • Take Stoops Ferry
  • Turn onto Flaugherty Run
  • Turn onto Brodhead Road
  • Turn back onto University Boulevard

PennDOT official Tom Holmes said that the recent rain was the culprit of the slide.

“With all the rain that soaked into the hillside, it just caused it all to loosen up and then fall and crumble down,” Holmes said.
