Following a massive week for the men’s basketball team, one in which they secured a pair of wins over top dogs Wright State and rival Youngstown State, two Colonials took home personal awards as a result of the team’s success.
Forward DeSean Goode was named Horizon League Player of the Week, while freshman guard Darius Livingston earned his first conference award, being named Horizon League Freshman of the Week.
Last Wednesday, the Colonials defended home court against Wright State, taking down the Raiders 72 – 66 in a nationally televised game.
Goode contributed to the win over Wright State with a 16-point performance, bringing in seven rebounds, dishing out two assists, and recording season highs with two blocks and two steals in 32 minutes. Livingston matched Goode’s point total, scoring 16 points himself while shooting 50% from the arc, making a career-high 4 three-pointers in the win.
Then over the weekend, the men traveled to Ohio to take on the Youngstown State Penguins. The Colonials held off Youngstown State from a second-half comeback and knocked off their second win of the week in a 72 – 66 win.
The transfer forward from IU Indy scored 24 points in the victory, and reached season highs in field goals made with nine and three pointers made, knocking down three from behind the arc. Goode also brought down seven rebounds in the 35 minutes he played on Saturday.
Livingston chipped in with 12 points in the Colonials’ eighth conference win of the season this past Saturday. The freshman guard from Orlando kept up his efficient shooting from three-point land, hitting a trio of threes in the 32 minutes he played, which is a career high for minutes in a game.
Goode, Livingston, and the Colonials will travel back to Ohio to take on the Cleveland State Vikings on Thursday at 7 PM before returning to the UPMC Events Center on Sunday as they take on Oakland at 2 PM.
