The Robert Morris softball program is riding high right now. Following last night’s 12-3 demolition of Pitt, RMU’s big hitter Courtney Poulich has brought home a third weekly honor for the team.
Poulich hit two home runs last night against the Panthers, one of which brought in three runs. The performance moves Poulich up to eight home runs and 25 RBI on the season, both of which are team highs.
Before this week, new Colonials Ellie Facher and Agalia Rudd previously took home the same honor. The trio, along with sophomore Mary Brant, has provided a historic and large spark to a batting lineup that already brought home a Horizon League championship.
The Colonials have hit 27 home runs this season, already surpassing more than half of their season total of 50 last year. Those runs were hit over 48 games, a program record, but one that is increasingly likely to fall this season.
Poulich, herself, was a large proponent of that record, hitting 16 home runs and breaking the record of home runs by a player in a season. Poulich also owns the record for RBIs (53) and runs (45) in a season.
The Greensburg native has played an integral role in putting RMU Softball on the map and making it a consistent contender. In her three seasons with RMU, Poulich has hit 30 home runs and 98 RBI. She has a career slugging percentage of .698, a batting average of .308, and an on-base percentage of .397.
Poulich and her team will play at home for the first time this season when they welcome Mercyhurst to the North Athletic Complex for a four-game series this weekend. The doubleheader in Moon Township on Saturday is scheduled for 1 and 3:30 P.M.
