The Robert Morris University Colonials (3-8, 1-0) started their first Northeast Conference game with a win against the tremendously struggling Wagner College Seahawks (1-8, 0-1), taking a 2-1 victory on Friday afternoon.

Why it happened:

With the Seahawks coming into this game with a 1-7 overall record, the Colonials were easily able to overpower the Seahawks from the start with 12 shots that got sent towards the goal, with two of them only being successful. The Seahawks were also on a four-game losing streak, which has been extended to five now with the loss that they received at the end.

What it means:

RMU was able to present to other Northeast Conference teams, including the Seahawks, what they are capable of doing, given that both teams were both looking for their first Northeast Conference win coming into the game this afternoon. With Robert Morris holding their biggest offensive weapons in Kristina Kelley and Jane Schleicher, the Colonials are prepared to face the rest of the Northeast Conference this season.

Who starred:

Kristina Kelley was able to get the offense going early, with Jane Schleicher right behind her but the RMU offense as a whole starred as they got 19 shots compared to Wagner’s 3 shots in the game overall. The defense also was able to hold off the Seahawks with the one goal that Wagner got. Given the offensive power that the Colonials were able to give, it gave Sydney Bruckner’s job a lot easier to handle.

Who stumbled:

Wagner struggled tremendously as their defense gave up 19 shots to the Robert Morris Colonials as compared to the 3 shots they got. The Wagner offense also could not hold back on the fouls as they got up to 11 fouls for the afternoon, most of them coming in the first half with seven of them.

Who was there:

The first opponent of the NEC came into the game with a 1-7 record. The Wagner College Seahawks, have been struggling and extend their losing streak to five games. As for Robert Morris, this means that they have a head start on collecting Northeast Conference wins in preparation for the NEC tournament at the end of the season.

Who is next:

Robert Morris continues Northeast Conference play when they face Central Connecticut this Sunday at home at noon.
