Moon Township, PA — The Robert Morris Colonials (3-8, 1-0 NEC) put on a show on Friday afternoon when they sent the Wagner College Seahawks packing with a 2-1 victory.

The scoring started early as the Seahawks scored on Robert Morris only seconds into the game when Maria Nunez scored from the right side of the box just 46 seconds in the game. This made the score 1-0 in favor of Wagner.

The Colonials responded a few minutes later at the six-minute mark thanks to a goal from Kristina Kelley with an assist from Bailey Farabaugh, tying the game at 1-1.

Kelley is known for being an offensive commodity for the Colonials in conjunction with Schleicher. Kelley explained the connection that she had with Schleicher in today’s game.

“Jane definitely did well, she could take people on, she can dribble around, and getting forward she’s very good at that,” said Kelley. “We just need to get more people combined in it, getting the ball out wide.”

After the Colonials racked up shots without scoring for roughly 20 minutes, RMU took over the lead 2-1 thanks to the offensive power of Jane Schleicher, who had some help from Nicolette Casarcia in the 29th minute.

As the first half drew to a close, the Robert Morris offense came alive as they registered 12 shots in the half and went into the second half with a 2-1 lead.

“Well that’s what we’ve been looking for in out-of-conference, they did it in the first game of the conference and I’m looking for a repeat of this in more games in the conference,” said Coach John Kowalski on the high shot total.

The second half started off slowly as neither team got a shot in until the 56th minute by Schleicher of RMU.

The Colonials finished off the afternoon with no goals scored in the second half, but overall they had a very strong offensive outbreak and secured a 2-1 victory over the Seahawks.

After the game, Kowalski gave his thoughts on his team’s overall performance, is highlighted by two goals, 19 shots and just three shots against for the afternoon.

“Some of them were good quality opportunities, including a penalty kick, follow-up, some breakaways I guess to win, the ball held it up,” said Kowalski. “The second half, the ball was running away from us. So yeah we got some of those shots, but the goalie made some very good saves in the second half.”

Robert Morris plays another Northeast Conference game again this coming Sunday against the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils at the North Athletic Complex at noon.
