Robert Morris University held its second annual Global Karneval. The event was organized by the Center for Global Engagement. The program was held last year in the Charles L. Sewall Center. Due to the construction of the UPMC Event Center, the event was held in Yorktown Hall.

International students from all over the world show off their culture by setting up booths and having arts and crafts. Returning this year was a popular event – Saudi Dances. The dances were sponsored by the Saudi Student Club. This year, Global Karneval also included Salsa lessons, Carpatho and Steelpan Drums.

“The Global Karneval is about celebrating and sharing the cultural diversity here on RMU’s campus and in the Greater Pittsburgh Area,” said Dillan Gaydos, organizer of the event. “Entertainment is selected by the Center for Global Engagement staff to represent different cultural groups in the Pittsburgh area and some of the larger student organizations at the university.”

The event also held a raffle for students, faculty and staff in attendance. Guests paid $10 for a passport that would allow them to travel “around the world” and experience the food, music and culture of 10,000 villages.

“The Global Karneval represents RMU embracing our Core Value of a Global Perspective to bring students, faculty, staff, and the community together who may be from various different backgrounds and having fun in the process,” said Gaydos
